The initial appointment is called an intake. In this appointment, an interview-based assessment will be conducted. This allows your therapist to gather data about your life, understand what brought you into counseling, learn what your needs and goals are, and begin to collaborate with you to develop a treatment plan. This appointment usually lasts between 60-90 minutes. For minors, at least one legal guardian needs to be present at the appointment.
This is a standard therapy session, which can apply to individual or family therapy. These sessions usually last for 55 minutes. However, this is your time and if you need to end a session early, you are welcome to do so.
In order to best protect the practice and appointment availability, as well as abide by ethical and best practice standards, fees may be appropriate to charge when an appointment is missed. Prickly Pear Counseling LLC will waive one No Show/Late Cancellation fee per calendar year. Additional fee waivers may be granted on a case by case basis due to emergency, illness, or other unforeseen circumstances. Avoid fees by canceling the appointment at least 24 hours before we’re scheduled to meet.
